Alberta Data Partnerships (ADP) has completed the first Open Data Areas Alberta (ODAA) Modernization stakeholder sessions and a summary is available at the link below. Sessions held July 21 with government and academia and July 23 with industry and technology innovators drew 35 participants from provincial and municipal government, universities, consulting, energy, environmental services and the technology sector, who contributed their anonymous responses across 36 live polls.
One message came through in both rooms: the currency of data is what matters most. Update frequency was named the biggest obstacle to using geospatial data by 90+% of the both sessions ahead of cost, quality and licensing. LIDAR led the source-data rankings, land cover and change topped ready-to-use products, support for the Registered Interests on Titled Land (RITL) was strong across both groups, and Peace River emerged as the most requested of three proposed new areas.
